Another year has passed and we slowly but surely move towards Raw Investigation's sixth birthday. There have been ups and downs, members coming and going, bands forming and splitting, heats and coldwaves. We've seen a lot the past years and went through a lot ourselves. It's never been easy to keep up writing as the older we grew the more our lifes got overtaken by new obligations and challenges. The only thing that has never changed was our love and passion for music. It was always there and it will always be there, if we talk about it or not.(read more)

Can't decide on what to do this summer? You feel overwhelmed, facing the many possibilities of thrilling activities ranging from toasting on the beach, hiking in the moutains or or eating as much icecream a day as you possibly can?

Dear adorable faithful reader, thank you for sticking around and being patient with us. Yes, we are still alive. Yes, we are still loving music and yes, we are not going to stop Raw Investigations and all it implies any time soon. Not at all actually. But before I'll tell you our plans, I owe you a little summary of our whereabouts: (read more)

The end of the year draws closer and even if I, for one, think that 31 December and 1 January are just two dates like any other two dates, start thinking about the past year; things happened, hearts broke and got (read more)

I am a huge Halloween fan. I guess I just like dressing up and acting like a lunatic once a year, and I've been celebrating it with friends for years now, dressing up and watching scary films. We don't actually go around the neighbourhood to collect candy (read more)

Ry's Little Lecture on Modern Dutch Music
For years, nearly decades, the Dutch music scene wasn't something to be proud of. Still, what is called "real Dutch music" is a disaster. Maybe some of you will remember what we turned up with at Eurovision 2010. Let's forget all about that for a moment (read more)

Lately, I had this discussion about Raw Investigations and its impact on people. The person I spoke to insisted that it were a great impact as I write about the work of others, basically judge it and blurt my opinion out. According to him, no matter what I wrote, a praising review or a nasty rip-off, people would take on my opinion. I still doubt that. (read more)

Some weeks ago, I happened to be partying with my parents and their childhood friends, in the middle of nowhere to a selection of good ol' rock'n'roll sounds from the 1960's and the 1970's.
Frankly, it was incredible because on this very moment, I realized that I had much more in common with my parents than I was aware of: MUSIC. (read more)

Hi there! I'm Hilda, and this is my very first blog on RI! After contributing to solve a very adventurous interview with The Radio Dept. at the Way Out West festival together with Maud, I suddenly found myself (read more)

Yesterday, there was an email in my inbox. The subject line read "Time to work for RI!" Exciting. So hi there, I'm Ryanne, the new girl, and I shall use this first blog to tell a bit about me and how I ended up here. (read more)

Soundtracks
Lately, I’ve been watching some detective series on a Russian TV channel; it is an extremely popular one, about a shrewd police woman who detects the most complicated and heart-piercing crimes committed in the Moscow region. Every time I watched it, I was fascinated with (read more)

Someone told me I should be in a band.
This is funny, because I am more than selfconcious if it comes to singing and this person who is a singer himself, in a band, told me this while I was singing drunkly at his party. My reaction was some "yeah sure"-insecure-giggling considering I was pissed and realised that I did the big no go I set to myself; let someone listen to my voice hitting the (apparently right) notes. (read more)

I'm currently doing an internship in a city hall for 3 months. It's not a mandatory internship but I wanted to do it anyway for that it could provide me with some valuable professional experience. As it's not mandatory, I have several missions and actually all of them are pretty much interesting. It's also the first time I'm working the (read more)

While reading Britpop!, the definitive book about British music is the nineties written by expert John Harris, it hit me that there's no film dedicated to Britpop, except a couple of TV documentaries. Filming Britpop's history could be either a masterpiece analysing the movement, its desire to stop the US grunge invasion and the link between Tony Blair and pop music, or (read more)

I can only guess how hot it is elsewhere in Europe but be assured Berlin is unbearably hot these days. I'm talking about the weather not fancy-able people as no matter how short the skirts and how deep the cleavages get, redfaced sweaty people are gasping for breath and trying to fight dehydration. Not exactly what I'd call sexy. To leave the house seems like suicide but what can you do if you have to (read more)

I have this weird tendency to compare songs to food. I don't know why. But I like to taste every texture, every layer of a song, just like you'd do with a special food or something. But I suspect that, deep there, I only make these comparisons because I could easily replace my food for music, my actual (read more)

If you follow us on twitter, you probably have read more than once things such as "It's really hard to work with the music biz if you happen to cross ways with major labels. Avoid them and your life will be MUCH easier. Word." or "It's really hard to work together with the music industry as an independant and non-commercial magazine..."
If you were wondering what we were so upset about (read more)

It's summer, the sun is finally out and tickles our noses. Moods are lifted and with the endorphines that the sun brings, you want to hug the world. Of course it's no news that this is the love season per se. Everybody knows it, it's obvious, so I won't have to explain this any further, do I?
Presumably you have noticed that (read more)

We are all (wo)men.
I think I need a men's translator. I mean, I have done everything possible, in my condition of woman, to make him understand that I was deeply "interested" (obsessed, at this point, would be the adequate term) in him.
But there's no way he could (read more)

Late August 2008, I started my exchange semester in Malmö, Sweden. It was probably the time of my life.
Then I went to Buenos Aires, Argentina for another exchange semester but it was not the same at all.
From times to times, details make me remember how cool and good it was in Sweden despite (read more)

How impatient are you?
Actually, I'm really calm, patient a person. I'm patient with others, for instance if I'm giving private maths or English lessons and it takes those kids ages to understand. I am patient with myself, I am patient with destiny and the future, I'm patient with the weather and the world.
There are two things, however, that turn me into (read more)

Nicolas Ungemuth is the best reason, if not the only, to buy the French magazine Rock & Folk every month. Not only that he's one of the funniest, wittiest rock critics France has ever produced, but he has also gained complete freedom and can say absolutely everything he wants about anyone. Never afraid to destroy so-called untouchable legends (read more)

Music, to my mind

My parents 25th anniversary came up, the happy occasion made me flick through our old family albums. One man stuck out. Growing up in Ireland for my generation was a generational experience all in itself. My parents generation, and their parents generation and so on, all had a constant lifestyle and outlook from they're early days to their twilight years. It was simply put, the same. It was the typical Ireland that many tourists envisage when they arrive on the shores of our Emerald Isle... (read more)

I have a childhood memory of myself sitting on the sofa in my father's living-room. I remember it was sunny outside, and I must have been watching that good old "Top 50" programme on the 6th channel.
